Last of the red hot lavas

11th August

A last look around the lava fields of Myvatn. It was positively warm today with no wind: all the power stations' steam plumes were going straight upwards. The car registered 16C, but it must have been higher.   Guess who insisted on cave swimming? These are cooler than they were a few years ago, but still warm as bath water.

We stopped in at Godafoss on the way to Rutaskrida for the night, Rowena taking her second dip of the day in the hot tub. The waitress informed us that June had been cold this year & they were finally getting the warm weather they expected earlier in the year.

Penny & I took a walk after dinner up the hill at Rutaskrida & were led the first few hundred metres by this intrepid little chap. He seemed to be exploring the world away from the rest of the herd.
