Seyðisfjörður & Skalanes
On the (late) morning of 7th August (this was the day after the big hike) we left the overcast valley of Eglisstadir & Eidar (where we were staying in a "summer hotel": an agricultural college) & drive over a pass down into Seyðisfjörður. We were greeted by a fabulous view into the fjord, a string of fosses (see the "Foss all collection" blog page) & sunshine all day long. If you see us wearing hats & coats - its because , despite the warm sunshine, the air was cold, and any breeze a little chilling.
After driving down a very bumpy gravel track (very slowly & carefully), we parked rather than cross a ford then walked along the sea shore. Bilberries, seabirds, yet more fosses (I resisted walking a bit further to photograph them). The odd thing about the "seabirds": I named them as "Eider duck", confirmed by the bird book given for my birthday. How did I do that?
