Take a hike
6th August
After the rain on 5th August, we set off for a hike in the Skaftafell National Park, towards "Kristinatindar" - twin peaks. We had some lovely views over glaciers and towards the peaks. The children complained bitterly at the upwards progres. So much so that I fear for our old age when they choose our nursing home. After 8 hours walking, we had a 320Km drive to Eidar, 11km North of Eglisstadir. A beautiful, sunny, evening we had fabulous view of the cliffs & glaciers, as well as the hillside waterfalls along this long coastal drive. But we had no time to stop & photograph them. No internet connection for 2 days, so I've had to do some catching up.
Svinasfell glacier the evening before the hike. Rowena is in shot wearing a purple cagoule.
A couple of fosses seen on the way, including Svartifoss (no, really). See the fosses blog page.
The Svinasfell valley is top right here, with the Skaftasfell glacier just below us.
The children are not impressed

Sounds as if you will all need a holiday when you get back home. 8 hours walking, keep that up & you'll all end up in a nursing home. How are the knees?
